Neither of my visits to Anhui Province have been as a tourist. My teaching fellowship has a site in Anhui, and I have visited it twice, for work and to see friends. But nonetheless, I’ve managed to squeeze in visits to the two main highlights of the province: the Huizhou villages of Xidi, Hongcun and Guanlu and Huangshan, the Yellow Mountains. The two can be easily visited together, but if you only have time for one, I’d probably vote for the villages — unless the weather is amazing. Then, the sunrise over Huangshan is supposed to be a to-die-for experience.
