Snapshot: Amber Fort

by Jessica Marsden on October 29, 2010

Amber Fort, Jaipur, India

In honor of last night’s birthday dinner (Indian takeout, since it was also the night before our final), today’s snapshot is from my first trip to India in April 2009. I say first because it just might end up being chosen for my Spring Festival trip next January/February. Every meal of Indian food just increases the chance!

But food aside, I loved-loved-loved traveling in India. Yes, it is considerably less developed than China and more likely to force you to confront your own overwhelming luck to have been born in the U.S./Canada/Europe/etc. This makes some travelers uncomfortable to the point of not wanting to go back, but to me it was just part and (important) parcel of a multi-faceted experience that also included beautiful architecture, generous people, and every kind of sensory overload. And, yes, delicious meals.

This is the latest in a series of Friday snapshots featuring photos from my travels in China and beyond. Stay on top of all my latest exploits by subscribing to my RSS feed.

It looks so peaceful now. I wonder how the place must have been during the rule of the Suryavanshi Kshatriyas or the Warrior kings of this region.
