Snapshot: Pulau Perhentian Besar at Sunset

Sunset on Perhentian Besar, Malaysia

As I sit on the beach during my summer vacation, I’ve been reminded of my most recent other stint on the beach: a few days at the Perhentian Islands on the Malaysian coast, way back in October. My mom and I stayed on Perhentian Besar, the larger of the two islands, and spent our days sunning, swimming and snorkeling. The aquatic life we snorkeled with in the crystal clear waters was unlike anything we’d ever seen. Six-foot-long baby sharks appeared out of nowhere, sting rays swept up from the sandy bottom, and one of the most common fish looked just like the Rainbow Fish. After such exhilarating days, we were happy to spend the evenings relaxing with a beer and enjoying the sunset view from our resort — which wasn’t even the best the Perhentians had to offer.

This is the latest in a series of Friday snapshots featuring photos from my travels in China and beyond.
