10 Travel Blogs You Should Read Now

by Jessica Marsden on July 26, 2010

Now that I’m home in the States for a few weeks of R&R, I’m relying on other travel bloggers for my fix of wild adventures, delicious new foods, and beautiful photos. The 10 current travelers whose posts I’m most excited to read lately are:

  1. C’est Christine — Christine (@camorose) is living in Nice, studying French and making me jealous with her attempt to sample all the flavors at her local ice cream place. I’ve been in Asia for the past two years, but I first caught the travel bug on a family trip to Paris, and French was my first foreign language. Christine’s posts make me nostalgic for that time in my traveling life.

  2. Freedonia Post — Joel (@magicant) is just beginning a bike trip across Europe. I can’t even ride a bike (shameful, I know), so reading his posts is probably the closest I’ll get to this kind of journey. Or maybe he’ll inspire me to try again with two wheels.

  3. Johnny Vagabond — Wes (@JohnnyVagabond) is currently in Vietnam in the middle of his yearlong RTW trip. I visited Vietnam in January on a whirlwind tour through Southeast Asia, and reading Wes’s posts lets me revisit those memories and also learn more about the places we didn’t have time to visit. (Wes is such a great blogger that he posted his own list of 10 travel blogs to follow the day after I scheduled this one. Check ‘em out!)

  4. Legal Nomads — Jodi (@legalnomads) has been traveling for more than two years on the kind of itinerary that would make any traveler jealous. She’s hiked South America, ridden the Trans-Siberian and done a stint as an expat in Bangkok. This year she spent a month in Burma, one of the more controversial places in the world to travel, and her series of posts about the trip are fascinating.

  5. Skinny Backpacker — Dustin (@skinnybackpackr) takes the kind of gorgeous photos I can only dream about. His “Photo of the Day” posts are occasionally punctuated with longer essays on the nature of travel or unique experiences like Couchsurfing with a farmer in Malaysia.

  6. Suzy Guese — Like Christine, Suzy (@suzyguese) is temporarily settled in Europe, but in Italy, not France. In addition to posts about her own experiences (like surviving solo travel), she collects guest posts and photos from travel bloggers scattered around the world.

  7. The Road Forks — Akila and Patrick (@theroadforks) produce some of the best writing in the travel blogging world. A new post from them is almost always the first thing I’ll jump to in my Google Reader, and I was excited to find out that they will be extending their trip into 2012. After nearly a year in the road, they’re in China now and I can’t wait to hear what they have to say.

  8. Travels of Adam — Adam (@travelsofadam) has been traveling through North Africa and the Middle East, places I haven’t given much thought to as travel destinations. Now, I’m thinking about them. He’ll be heading to Asia later in the trip, so I’ll be able to compare notes.

  9. Two Backpackers — Jason and Aracely (@TwoBackpackers) have been exploring another part of the world I don’t know much about — Central and South America. Their beautiful daily photos (like this one) have introduced me to many new landscapes and destinations.

  10. Uncornered Market — Audrey and Daniel (@umarket) are the most established of the bloggers on the list, and sometimes it seems like they have been everywhere (even Antarctica!). They have been traveling for more than three years, but they still manage to bring a fresh eye to each place they visit. Their posts are some of the most thought-provoking of the travel blogosphere.

Audrey and I are honored to be included in this list. We especially appreciate “…some of the most thought-provoking of the travel blogosphere.” For us, that distinction means a lot. Thank you!

Thanks for including me on this list – much appreciated! I meant to do a considerable amount of posts about Burma but got side-tracked by the protests in Bangkok. However, I’ll be returning to Burma in the next weeks, starting with a slideshow of Yangon. Thanks again!

Jess – Thank you, thank you, thank you for those kind words. I always look forward to your posts as well so getting this compliment from you means so much.

Aw, thanks so much for including me. These are all some of my favorite travel bloggers and it’s great to be included with them.

And you should definitely include the Middle East on future travels. I only wish I’d gone to Syria…

Great list – thanks for including me and my little bit o’ goofy!

Looking forward to having you back out on the road again, soon. We’ll get you on a bike somehow!

Wow, apparently you got the check I sent because I don’t know how else I could have made a list with these other heavy hitters :) Thanks for the mention, we’ll do what we can to persuade you to get back on the road soon enough.
