Snapshot: Halong Bay at Dusk

by Jessica Marsden on May 7, 2010

Halong Bay, Vietnam

At dusk, Halong Bay begins to fill with wooden junks anchoring for the night. When dark falls, the karsts disappear but every boat is outlined in twinkling deck lights. Although the bay is crowded, it is a solitary experience, shared with just the few other people on your boat. A night aboard is the perfect antidote to a week in hectic Hanoi and commercialized Sapa.

If you’re going to Halong Bay: We were pleasantly surprised by our cruise with Vega Travels, which far exceeded expectations. Spending a little more definitely pays off for this trip.

This is the latest in a series of Friday “snapshots,” featuring photos from my latest travels in China and beyond. If you enjoyed this post, please subscribe to my RSS feed to automatically receive my latest updates.
