Hi. I ran across your blog while looking for recommendations of where to eat in Changsha. If Huogongdian is on the pricey side, do you have other recommendations of a more budget level? I’ve checked Dianping.com, and found one spot, but not knowing anything about about Hunanese cuisine yet, I don’t know if I’ve ordered typical Hunan food. Would love to have your insight if you can point me in the right direction. Thanks, Shanti
I’m not sure what kind of budget you are on, but I’ve never had a bad meal on Pozi Jie (same street as Huogongdian), and the less famous restaurants are a bit cheaper. I also really love HuDa Impressions, on the west side of the river near the Yuelu Shuyuan (Yuelu Academy). And last night I had a magnificent dinner at a place whose English name is Food World — unfortunately I didn’t write down the Chinese name. It’s just off of Shaoshan Lu near Furong Lu, to the left of the Pinghetang department store.

Hope that helps!
