James Fallows posted yesterday that, thanks to swine flu panic, China has modified its visa rules for US citizens:
China is tightening its visa rules for Americans, in the name of controlling the spread of swine flu. Normally, you could expect to get a routine tourist or business visa cleared in one to three days, depending on whether you paid for “expedited” or normal service. Now, all applications from Americans require at least six business days for processing.
So don’t count on making that spur-of-the-moment trip to China next weekend. I don’t see how thisis going to have any real effect on the transmission of swine flu (after all, Americans are still being issued visas), but it fits right in with the policy of quarantining anyone with a Mexican passport, whether or not they had, you know, been in Mexico recently.
